CARLOS SERRES
Wine has a history. And history is full of wine.
That of Carlos Serres (Charles, in French) is one of them. One of those which happen once in a lifetime and perdure. In 1885, Carlos Serres came to Haro from Bordeaux on a one-way journey. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to launch his eponymous winery in 1896. Then came the transoceanic journeys and new markets, which made him a pioneering exporter of Rioja and co-founder of the first Rioja Exporters Syndicate, precursor of today’s Control Board. A wine revolutionary in his time. Today, more than a century later, the winery continues paying tribute to his legacy. To continue writing Today's Rioja… with a taste of history.
Young Wines, Fresh and Fruity
All the grapes for our Young Wines are supplied by an exclusive group of growers in the Haro area with whom the winery has special agreements. The vineyards average between 10 and 20 years in age and are jointly managed with our winery. It is a way of ensuring top quality berries. The vineyards are continuously monitored throughout the growing cycle
Elegant and Expressive
The Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo grapes used in our Carlos Serres Reserva and Carlos Serres Gran Reserva come from a selection of different plots within Finca El Estanque, picked by hand from vines averaging 30 years in age. French and American oak ageing periods for our aged wines range from 14 to 36 months.
Terroir and complexity
The result of the most personal selection of grapes from our Finca El Estanque vineyard. With exclusive plots for each of our Reservas and vines aged between 35 and 40 years (depending on the variety) we achieve slow, uniform ripening with a perfect balance of acidity, sugar content and aromatic maturity. It is aged for 24 months in new French and American oak barrels.
